Mission

We aim to nurture students into confident and proficient users of their Mother Tongue Languages by providing engaging and meaningful learning experiences. Through our curriculum, we cultivate a love for language, culture, and tradition, making learning both enjoyable and effective. Guided by the three key pillars of Communication, Culture, and Connection, our approach integrates language skills, cultural values, and real-world applications to develop well-rounded learners.

Emphasis of The Department

We believe in building a strong foundation for our students in their Mother Tongue Languages. Through engaging lessons, interactive activities, and a supportive learning environment, we aim to make learning fun and meaningful. Our goal is to instill a love for the language and equip students with the confidence to use it in daily life.

To enrich their learning, we organise a variety of language and cultural activities throughout the year. These hands-on experiences help students explore their heritage, develop communication skills, and strengthen their connection to their Mother Tongue.

Together, we create a vibrant and inspiring space where students can embrace their Mother Tongue with confidence and pride.

1.  Curriculum Structure & Pedagogical Approaches

Our school’s approach to Mother Tongue Language (MTL) learning integrates 21st Century Competencies (21CC) to develop confident and effective communicators. Through Differentiated Instruction, we cater to varied proficiency levels with scaffolding and targeted tasks, ensuring an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Communicative Language Teaching emphasizes real-life communication skills, fostering collaboration, critical thinking, and adaptability. Interactive and Multimodal Learning incorporates digital tools, videos, and role-playing, making lessons engaging and meaningful.

Above all, we nurture the joy of learning by using storytelling and interactive activities to spark curiosity and intrinsic motivation.

These approaches during MTL lessons ensure that students not only develop strong language skills but also appreciate their cultural heritage and feel confident using their Mother Tongue in daily life.

2.  Department Programmes

 Reading Programme

One of the key highlights of our department’s enrichment efforts is our reading programme. Carefully selected fiction books and newspapers expose students to a wider range of language beyond their textbooks. By cultivating a habit of reading, students gain confidence and a deeper love for their Mother Tongue.

Cultural Programmes and Activities

Mother Tongue Fortnight & P4 Cultural Camp

These activities allow students to experience their heritage first-hand, making learning more immersive and enjoyable. Through interactive experiences, they develop a deeper appreciation for their Mother Tongue languages and cultures.

Learning Journeys：CPES

We take students beyond the classroom through cultural Learning Journeys.These cultural programmes provide valuable opportunities for experiential and contextual learning. By making real-world connections, students deepen their understanding of their heritage, culture, and the world around them.

 Festive Celebrations

Our students celebrate Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, and Deepavali, fostering a deeper appreciation for their heritage through fun and meaningful activities. These celebrations help students connect with traditions, strengthen their cultural identity, and embrace diversity in our multicultural society.

 School and National Competitions

We actively encourage students to participate in language competitions at both school and national levels. These competitions help students sharpen their language skills, boost their confidence, and develop teamwork.

Through our engaging curriculum and immersive experiences, we nurture students to be confident communicators and lifelong learners of their Mother Tongue Language. We look forward to partnering with parents to support our students’ language journey!
